The Time Tunnel

(TV Series 1966–1967)

Scientists Tony Newman and Doug Phillips are the young heads of Project Tic-Toc, a multi-billion dollar government installation buried beneath the desert. They have invented a Time Tunnel, which will allow people to visit anywhere in time and space. While testing the tunnel for an impatient senator, Newman and Phillips became trapped in time, and each week coincidentally found themselves at the site of an important historical event, be it the Siege of Troy, the sinking of the Titanic or an assassination attempt on President Lincoln. Sometimes they traveled into the future, and battled alien invaders. Ann MacGregor, Gen. Kirk and Dr. Swain are the scientists trying to fix the malfunctioning Time Tunnel and bring Doug and Tony back to the present (1968). Written by Marty McKee

The year is 1968, and Doug Phillips and Tony Newman are are working on a top secret project beneath the Arizona desert called "tic-toc". The project has been 10 years in the making, and a visiting senator wants to see if this project really works, or he will cut the funding for it. To prove that it can work, Tony Newman turns on the time tunnel and goes back to the year 1912, and is on board the Titanic, which would sink hours later. Doug Phillips goes into the tunnel to help Tony, and both are stuck hapless in time. They are catapulted each week to a new adventure in history. Written by Doug Leighton

The U.S. government has a $7 billion project to build a device to allow travelling in time. A senator is sent by congress to the installation in order to inspect the situation and decide if the government should spend more money on it. As the senator seems to be disappointed, Prof. Tony Newman takes his chances and uses the Time Tunnel in a trip to the past to demonstrate the device's efficiency. He arrives aboard the Titanic in 1912 a few hours before it sank. Prof. Douglas Phillips goes to rescue him, but things go wrong and both become lost in time. Written by Luis Carvacho .

Worldwide released on the Christmas day, December 25, the film, a story of two friends who embark on a quest for a lost buddy is going to be screened here on the New Year’s, January 1.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film revolves around Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Rancho or Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan), three engineering students who all share the same room in a hostel at the fictional ICE, one of the best colleges in India.

While Farhan and Raju are mediocre students from modest backgrounds, Rancho is a wealthy genius who studies for the sheer joy of it. Yet it is precisely his passion for knowledge and his gift for creating machines that incurs the wrath of Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe (ViruS) (Boman Irani). Threatened by Rancho’s talent, ViruS labels him an “idiot” and attempts on a number of occasions to destroy his friendship with Farhan and Raju.

In contrast, ViruS’ model student is Chatur Ramalingam or “Silencer,” (Omi Vaidya) a geek who lives by conforming to the expectations of the system, mindless cramming, and unethical means of destroying his competition. Meanwhile, Rancho also falls in love with ViruS’ pre-med daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor) when he and his “buddies” (Raju and Farhan) “crash” her sister’s wedding.

Their story is framed as a flashback from the present day, five years after graduation. Having lost contact with Rancho who disappeared during the graduation party, Raju and Farhan begin a journey to find him. They are joined by Chatur, now a wealthy and successful businessman, who joins them to settle a bet with Rancho and meet a business associate named Phunsukh Wangdu. Raju and Farhan also find and bring Pia along with them.

The film is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and is a CEL release imported to Sri Lanka by Aiswariya Films.

Eventually, Anna and William get to know each other better over the months, but being together with the world’s most wanted woman is not easy - neither around your closest friends, nor in front of the all-devouring press.

The screenplay was written by Richard Curtis who had previously written Four Weddings and a Funeral. It was. The film won a BAFTA, and was nominated in two other categories. Notting Hill won several other awards, including a British Comedy Award and a Brit Award for the soundtrack.

What Happened for Mininova.org in 2009 ? Here is the answer and all the information

Mininova limits its activities to Content Distribution service

http://madebygeeks.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/mininova.jpg

Hi all,

Today is an important day in the history of Mininova. From now on, we are limiting Mininova.org to our Content Distribution service. By doing so, we comply with the ruling of the Court of Utrecht of last August.

Unfortunately the court ruling leaves us no other option than to take our platform offline, except for the Content Distribution service. According to the verdict (Dutch link) we have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles. We’ve been testing some filtering systems the last couple of months, but we found that it’s neither technically nor operationally possible to implement a 100% working filter system. Therefore, we decided that the only option is to limit Mininova to Content Distribution torrents from now on. We are still considering an appeal at this moment.

We launched our Content Distribution service in 2007. This service allows producers and artists to easily publish and distribute their content for free through Mininova. The launch of Content Distribution has proven to be a success. Countless content owners have used Content Distribution to distribute their content (e.g. albums and documentaries) for free to millions of users. For example, the Dutch band Silence is Sexy released their complete album on Mininova and received the Interactive Award 2009 for doing so. The Dutch television broadcaster VPRO decided to start using Content Distribution in 2009 in order to distribute documentaries.

We would like to thank you for your support. Especially everyone that contributed to Mininova receives a big “thank you!” for the effort! We hope to keep welcoming you on Mininova and our other projects (e.g. Snotr, Dispostable).

Thanks! The Mininova staff

Nicolas Cage loses 2 homes in foreclosure auction

Nicolas Cage loses 2 homes in foreclosure auction

http://images.askmen.com/galleries/men/nicolas-cage/pictures/nicolas-cage-picture-2.jpg

Even Academy Award winners are suffering from financial woes this recession. Actor Nicolas Cage lost two homes in New Orleans worth a total of $6.8 million in a foreclosure auction Thursday.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Regions Bank purchased Cage's 1140 Royal Street property in the French Quarter appraised at $3.5 million for $2.3 million. The bank, which has about 1,900 branches throughout the South, Midwest and Texas, paid $2.2 million for Cage's 2523 Pataniya Street property appraised at $3.3 million in the Garden District.

New Orleans's civil Sheriff Paul Valteau said no other bids were made on the houses.

Cage owed $5.5 million in mortgage payments and $151,730 to the City of New Orleans in real estate taxes, according to Valteau.

Hancock Park Real Estate Co., a corporation through which Cage purchased both homes, is listed as the official property owner. Valteau said attorneys representing Samuel Levin, Cage's former business manager, set up the corporation so that Cage's name would not appear on the mortgage documents -- a common strategy among celebrities.

Levin also was listed on the mortgage document as the agent for service of process, Valteau added. That agent is the officer appointed by a corporation to receive legal notices.

Last month, Cage filed a lawsuit against Levin in California claiming that Levin duped the Hollywood actor out of more than $20 million since 2001 when he was hired.

The suit said Levin "lined his pockets with several million dollars in business management fees while sending Cage down a path toward financial ruin."

The suit went on to say Cage has "discovered that he is now forced to sell major assets and investments at a significant loss and is faced with huge tax liabilities because of Levin's incompetence, misrepresentations and recklessness. Rather than attaining financial security, Cage has been forced to dispose of significant assets in order to pay for Levin's gross misconduct."

A reporter's calls to Levin's office for comment were not immediately returned.

CNN reported that Cage owes more than $6 million in back taxes and his properties in California and Las Vegas have also been foreclosed on and are designated for auction later this month.

The actor, who's known for his roles in Leaving Las Vegas and National Treasure, has 5 projects slated for 2010, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Cage's publicist Annett Wolf said she had "no information and can't help" when reached for comment.

"Kung Fu" Actor David Carradine Found Dead in Bangkok

"Kung Fu" Actor David Carradine Found Dead in Bangkok

A look back at five of the star's most memorable roles

A note on David Carradine's official Website confirms that the 72-year-old actor, perhaps best known for his role as Shaolin priest Kwai Chang Caine in the 1970s TV series Kung Fu, died June 3rd in Bankok. Carradine was on location in Thailand shooting a film called Stretch. According to a Thai police official, Carradine's body was discovered hanging by a nylon rope in his closet at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel, CNN reports. An autopsy is being conducted and an investigation has begun, though there were no signs of forced entry.

Photo

Carradine, who played a kung fu master in the Jonas Brothers' video for "Burnin' Up," came from fine theatrical stock. He was the son of legendary character actor John Carradine, and his brothers Keith (Dexter) and Robert (Revenge of the Nerds) are also actors. He is also the uncle of Ever Carradine (Party of Five) and Martha Plimpton (The Goonies). Carradine appeared in more than 100 films, and worked with such directors as Martin Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman, Quentin Tarantino and Hal Ashby.

While he was easily recognizable from recent appearances in Yellowbook and Lipton television spots, Carradine's lengthy career was filled with memorable performances. Here are five must-see roles from the four-time Golden Globe-nominated Carradine's impressive career:

Bill: In Quentin Tarantino's two-part Kill Bill series (released in late 2003 and early 2004, respectively), Carradine plays "Snake Charmer," the leader of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Carradine's portrayal of the heartless killer who puts a hit out on his pregnant lady love, The Bride (Uma Thurman), introduced him to a new generation.

Shane: Carradine played the title role in this American Western television series based on Jack Schaefer's 1949 book. He was praised for bringing his role of a traveler and ex-gunfighter who defends a woman's land from a ruthless baron to glorious life.

Kwai Chang Caine: Carradine starred in the long-running ?70s series Kung Fu as Caine, a Shaolin monk-trained journeyman who seeks out his half-brother, Danny Caine, and exacts justice along the way.

Woody Guthrie: In the 1976 biopic Bound for Glory, Carradine portrays the legendary folk singer as he attempted to bring attention to the desperate plight of the Okie Dust Bowl refugees in California during the Great Depression.

Poon Dong: In this year's Crank: High Voltage, Carradine plays the 100-year-old head of the Chinese Triad, who orders his men to track down and remove (for transplantation in his own chest) the seemingly indestructible heart of Chev Chelios, played by Jason Statham.

BANGKOK (Reuters) – Thai coroners completed an autopsy on the body of actor David Carradine Friday, a day after the star of 1970s-era U.S. television show "Kung Fu" was found naked and hanging dead in his luxury hotel room.

Coroners at Bangkok's Chulalongkorn hospital said they had not yet determined how the 72-year-old actor died and were waiting for the results of a toxicology screen. Police said it could take several weeks before the reason was known.

"We are now running tests and then we will decide the cause of death," the hospital's chief coroner, Nantana Sirisap, told Reuters. "This certainly was not a natural cause of death."

A maid found Carradine hanging naked by a rope in the closet of his hotel suite at the plush Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel Thursday, police said.http://www.nndb.com/people/840/000022774/david-carradine-1.jpg

Initial reports indicated a possible suicide, but his family representatives in Los Angeles have repeatedly said the actor was not suicidal.

Representatives for Carradine also declined to comment on media reports that the death was related to autoerotic asphyxiation, which involves intentionally cutting off oxygen supply for strong sexual arousal. And a former lawyer for Carradine said she suspected foul play.

But investigators in Bangkok said there was no indication other people had been in the room where Carradine was staying while shooting the movie "Stretch." Police and forensics teams were still gathering evidence as of Friday.

"We are currently interviewing witnesses, film crew, hotel staff and the last person who saw David alive," Lumpini police chief Colonel Somprasong Yentuam told Reuters.

"So far, no one saw anyone enter David's room around the estimated time of death."

HAPPY IN HIS FINAL HOURS

A hotel employee, who gave her name as Oi, said Carradine was in good spirits in the final few hours he was seen alive.

"He was in the hotel lobby, relaxing and playing the piano -- he looked very happy," she told Reuters television.

Tiffany Smith of Carradine's Los Angeles-based talent manager Binder & Assoc. repeated assertions that the actor's family believes Carradine could not have committed suicide.

"It's not where he is in his life right now, he was completely full of life, extremely happy to be going to Bangkok and doing this film," she said.

Smith declined comment on media reports about the possibility of an accidental death by autoerotic asphyxiation, pending the police report. Autoerotic asphyxiation involves intentionally cutting off oxygen supply for strong sexual arousal.

When long-time family friend and Carradine's former lawyer Vicki Roberts, who represented the actor in a past divorce, was asked whether he had a history of using autoerotic asphyxiation, she replied: "No, absolutely not."

Roberts said details of the way the actor was found in his hotel caused her to suspect foul play, but she conceded she was only reading news accounts out of Bangkok.

Meanwhile, Smith said Carradine's family was making arrangements to have his body flown back to Los Angeles, but as of Friday there were no details on when that might occur.

Carradine is married to Annie Bierman and he comes from a family of performers, including actor Keith Carradine, whose father is the late character actor John Carradine.

He enjoyed a long career on Broadway, TV and in movies such as Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill: Vol. 1" and "Kill Bill: Vol. 2." But he was most famous for his role in "Kung Fu," playing a martial arts specialist known as Caine who wandered through the American Old West seeking wisdom and beating up bad guys.

Queen ready to give American Idol'Star..Adam Lambert a gig?

Queen ready to give Adam Lambert a gig?

IDOL-QUEEN_5_

Throughout the eighth season of "American Idol," Adam Lambert has seemed to be auditioning for two roles. One, a Broadway star. The other? Fronting Queen.

It appears he may be getting his wish. According to Rolling Stone, Queen's guitarist Brian May says the surviving members of the group were thoroughly impressed with Lambert on this week's "American Idol" finale and are interested in working together in the future.

Queen reunited earlier this decade with Bad Company's Paul Rodgers at the helm, but Lambert has been channeling original Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury all season. The surviving members have noticed.

“Amongst all that furor, there wasn’t really a quiet moment to talk,” May told Rolling Stone. “But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It’s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn’t that easy. But I’d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.”

Queen's partnership with Rodgers ended earlier this year. Plenty of people in this building were bummed that Lambert didn't win "Idol," and others thought Lambert would be a better fit appearing in the Queen musical "We Will Rock You." So is Queen the next best stop for the budding rock star?

"Slumdog" child star's Mumbai shanty home torn down

"Slumdog" child star's Mumbai shanty home torn down (Reuters)

Azharuddin Ismail, who acted as the young 'Salim' in the Oscar-winning movie

MUMBAI (Reuters) - City authorities in Mumbai demolished the shanty home of a "Slumdog Millionaire" child star on Thursday, forcing his family into the streets months after the Oscar-winning film shot him to global fame.

Azharuddin Ismail, 9, played the character of Salim as a child in the film, a rags-to-riches romance about a poor Indian boy competing for love and money on a television game show.

Ismail's tarpaulin-covered home in a teeming slum was one of several shanties, illegally built along a drain, that were demolished by local authorities in Mumbai, India's financial capital and entertainment hub.

"When they came I was sleeping, they shook me awake and one policeman even threatened me," Ismail, surrounded by half-broken suitcases filled with clothes and utensils, told Reuters.

"What can I do if they have demolished my house? I will sleep out in the open."

A poster of "Slumdog Millionaire," signed by director Danny Boyle, fluttered from the only wall of Ismail's shanty still standing. Open sewers run nearby and it had no running water.

Authorities said the shanties had been demolished earlier but had sprung up again on the same spot.

"The shanties are all touching a drain that has to be cleaned before the advent of the monsoons," said U.D. Mistry, the local official in charge of the demolition drive.

Earlier this year, there was an outcry after pictures emerged of "Slumdog Millionaire's" child stars living in squalor despite the movie's box-office success and eight Academy Awards.

The film also sparked controversy for its name, deemed by some to be offensive to slum dwellers, and its treatment of the cast. Its depiction of the lives of poor Indians was dubbed "poverty porn" by sections of the media.

In February, the housing authority of Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, said they would give Ismail and fellow child star Rubina Ali new houses. But Ismail's mother, Shameem, said the family is now at the mercy of the rains.

"We also heard that the government had promised us houses, but what happened? We are still homeless," she said. "My son has brought glory to the country, shouldn't he get some credit?"

Contrary to reports, entertainer Stevie Wonder's home in Porter Ranch did not burn down in the Sesnon fire.

The New York Post, citing a "Left Coast source," said the singer's home had burned to the ground, along with his memorabilia and musical instruments.

But Wonder, in a statement, said the home was untouched by the blaze.

"I'm grateful to say that my house was not burned down in the fire," Wonder said in the statement. "I extend my sympathies to anyone who may have been touched by this horrendous event."

Britney sweeps at otherwise tame VMAs

Britney sweeps at otherwise tame VMAs

It took a year, but Britney Spears got the comeback she was seeking from the MTV Video Music Awards - and she didn't even have to sing or dance.

Spears nabbed three VMAs, including video of the year, erasing last year's career-low performance. Her first Moonman trophies came during a 25th anniversary show that otherwise lacked a defining moment, with most of the zaniness coming from host Russell Brand.

"Wow, thank you, I'm in shock right now. I was not expecting this," Spears, looking spectacular in a shimmering silver dress, said as she accepted her third trophy of the evening for "Piece of Me."Spears kept all three of her acceptance speeches short."This is such an honour to have this award right now," she said. "I want to thank my fans, this is dedicated to you."There was no such honour for Spears last year, when the declining diva - by then known more for her tabloid exploits and erratic behaviour - kicked off the Las Vegas telecast. Looking haggard and dazed, Spears bumbled her way through a performance of "Gimme More" that gave new meaning to the phrase "Sin City."

Though Spears didn't perform this time, she still opened the show, giving a blink-and-you-missed-it introduction of Rihanna. Still, just being there was enough for a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd long before she opened her mouth to get things rolling.Spears did provide a few laughs during a pre-taped comedic segment with "Superbad" actor Jonah Hill that preceded the live telecast. There were a few more laughs during comedian Brand's opening monologue, but the celeb audience seemed more nervous than amused, as the frenetic Brit took aim at Madonna, the virginity of teen sensations the Jonas Brothers and President Bush, whom he called "a retarded cowboy fellow."

He clearly got under the skin of one celebrity, however, with his jokes about promise rings, which the Jonas Brothers wear to signify their virginity. Another famous promise-ring wearer, Jordin Sparks, said before giving out one award:

"I just wanna say, it's not bad to wear a promise ring because not every guy and a girl wants to be a slut, OK?" she quipped.

Afterward, a somewhat contrite Brand apologized to a stone-faced Jonas Brothers, saying, "I didn't mean to take it lightly" before adding, "a little sex once and a while never hurt anybody."

Though the VMAs have been defined by zany, wild moments in the past - the Michael and Lisa Marie kiss, the Britney-Madonna kiss, Prince's butt-out jeans just to name a few - there were more head-scratching moments than outrageous ones at the sprawling Paramount Studios lot.The prim and proper Leona Lewis gave a graceful opening performance for a song by ... Lil Wayne, who appeared on stage barechested, displaying his tattooed torso as his pants hung below his buttocks (Ralph Lauren's underwear line got a nice plug, however). He performed hits "A Milli" and a song with T-Pain.

The Jonas Brothers performed a version of their song "Lovebug" that was so genteel one might have thought they were doing a tribute to the Osmonds. But the trio then segued to a rocked-out version of the song in the final moments, as a throng of screaming fans surrounded them on one of the movie's many sets.

Pink gave perhaps the show's most rousing performance, a pyrotechnic-fueled performance of her new song, "So What."T.I.'s performance was also noteworthy, since the last time he was due to perform at an awards show, he was arrested instead.

At last year's BET Hip-Hop Awards, he was accused of trying to buy machine guns and silencers (he was sentenced earlier this year to serve about a year in prison after completing at least 1,000 hours of community service).

He performed a new song with Rihanna, who also appeared on last year's show. But the dazzling singer from Barbados is hardly in need of any second chances, coming into the VMAs as one of music's hottest acts thanks to her two No. 1 hits of the summer, "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia."Closing the night was Kanye West who, like Spears, was hoping for a second chance after a disappointing VMA experience last year.

In Las Vegas, he had a Kanye-sized hissy fit backstage and vowed never to appear at the VMAs again after he didn't get a Moonman trophy despite several nominations.

This time, he had a stage all to himself, but he still may have reason to be miffed: he won no trophies during the ceremony, and, appearing after Spears accepted her third and final trophy of the evening, may have been more of an afterthought.

Prince Charles and celeb crowd watch streaker at polo match

Prince Charles at the Polo

STREAKERS HIT ROYAL POLO

Prince Charles got in a royal flush yesterday(27 July 2008 ) as streakers caused uproar at a polo match.

Charles and a celebrity-packed crowd watched as the trio ran naked from the grandstand and sprinted on to the turf during a match between England and Australia at Windsor Great Park.

Two of the streakers were swiftly grabbed and away - as one official joked: "We do have a dress code here." But to the delight of the cheering spectators, the third man gave stewards the runaround.

Streakers hit Charles polo match

The streakers could be seen on the event's big screen

Three male streakers invaded the pitch being watched by the Prince of Wales during an annual socA polo player on a horse and a naked man on a big screeniety polo event.

The naked trio emerged from the grandstand during a match between England and Australia at the Cartier International event in Windsor.

Two returned to the stand but the third was cheered as he fled stewards and hurdled two metal barriers to escape.

Prince Charles, who was overseeing the event in place of the Queen, watched the spectacle from the royal box.

The Cartier International, held at the Guards Polo Club within the grounds of Windsor Great Park, is one of the most glamorous dates in the social calendar.

Some 25,000 people attended the event, which took place on the hottest day of the year so far.

The intervention of the streakers, who stripped off during the final chukka, temporarily halted play

As they floundered after him, he even cheekily bent down to touch his toes in a mock exercise stretch. Then he nimbly jumped two fences and ran off. Charles, who was overseeing the annual Cartier International match in place of the Queen, watched the fun from the Royal Box alongside Bond girl Rosamund Pike and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson.

Singer Natalie Imbruglia, burlesque artist Dita von Teese, model Kelly Brook and actress Stefanie Powers were also in the crowd at the Guards Polo Club.

The actress, just 18, maintained a look of unflustered elegance as temperatures soared above 80F at the Cartier International Polo Day, an event that has come to even outshine Royal Ascot Ladies Day on the social calendar.

Prince Charles oversaw the annual match between England against Australia held at the Guards Polo Club within the grounds of Windsor Great Park. Three male streakers invaded the pitch watched by the Prince of Wales at an annual society polo event today.

During the final chukka the trio stripped off, emerged from the grandstand and ran on to the turf during a match between England and Australia at the Cartier International event at Windsor.

Two fled back into the stand but the other drew cheers from the crowd as he sidestepped chasing stewards and hurdled two metal barriers to escape.

The Prince of Wales, who was overseeing the event in place of the Queen, watched the spectacle from the Royal Box where celebrities including Bond girl Rosamund Pike and Harry Potter actress Emma Watson were also sitting.

Charles, wearing a cream suit and sunglasses, walked out at half-time to join in the tradition of stamping down the divots on the field caused by the horses’ hooves.

Despite the streakers’ intervention, which temporarily halted play, England went on to win 10-9 and lift the trophy.

Afterwards England team captain Luke Tomlinson said of the streakers: “It is not the first time I have played in a match where we’ve had a streaker and you are so focused on the game you hardly notice.

“It brings a bit of humour in and the crowd seem to enjoy it.”

A spokeswoman for the club said: “I think it is the hot weather and the Pimms to blame. These things happen.

“We will have asked them to put their clothes back on because we do have a dress code.”

The Guards Polo Club, one of the most prestigious in the world, is based at Smiths Lawn, in Windsor Great Park, near Windsor Castle.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been President of the club since its formation in 1955 but he is not so keen on the noise and crowds of the club’s biggest event.

The Queen and the Princes Harry and William may have been absent but the day was still blessed with the kind of mixture of Royalty, celebrity and aristocracy that only a British establishment event can muster.

The prestigious Cartier tent, this year designed by Nicky Haslam, the Royal posse did their best to make up for their missing friends.

Sam Branson, Sir Richard's son, sporting a new mohawk, Tom Van Straubenzee and Guy Pelly feasted on lunch prepared by celebrity chef Anton Mosimann (scallops, followed by rack of lamb), washed down with industrial quantities of Cartier's Cuvee.

Across the field at the Chinawhite tent, an edgier crowd led by the supermodel Agyness Deyn, Miss Watson and shoemaker to the stars Jimmy Choo chilled out to music by DJ Mark Ronson, the man credited with catapulting Amy Winehouse to stardom.

As always, few of the 35,000-strong crowd present paid much attention to the game. And as always, the guests from the two reigning hospitality tents, barely left their cossetted confines.

But the heat did take its toll.

Alongside the paying public, the Rothschilds, the Bransons, the model Caprice, Salman Rushdie and his female consort soon began to show signs of discomfort, their carefully considered outfits wilting in the heat.

Frenzied fanning followed with programmes or serviettes, anything guests could get their hands on to fight the perspiration.

Some even took to their air conditiojned cars for a break from the sun, while used umbrellas shield them from the sun.

Match-goers took advantage by holding picnics and sipping Pimms on lawns surrounding the grand stands.

Among those attending were pop star Natalie Imbruglia, rugby star Matt Dawson, Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond and Bond Girl Rosamand Pike.

It was only when the sun finally went down that the disheveled crowd cut loose, with festivities continuing at Mayfair nightclub Whisky Mist.

Richard Quest, CNN Reporter, Arrested On Drug Charges

The New York Times' City Room blog reports that CNN International business and travel reporter Richard Quest has been arrested on drug charges:

Mr. Quest was arrested early Friday morning after being escorted out of Central Park for violating the park curfew, a law enforcement official said Friday. The park is closed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The police noticed Mr. Quest at 64th Street and West Drive at about 3:40 a.m., the official said. As he was being escorted out, he volunteered, "I have meth in my pocket," according to an official briefed on the case. The police searched him and recovered a small amount of methamphetamine in a Ziploc bag.

TYING ONE ON: CNN broadcaster Richard Quest was busted in the wee hours in Central Park yesterday with a rope tied to his neck and genitals. "I've got some meth in my pocket," he helpfully told the arresting officer.

This is CNN? Kinky!

CNN personality Richard Quest was busted in Central Park early yesterday with some drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals, and a sex toy in his boot, law-enforcement sources said.

Quest, 46, was arrested at around 3:40 a.m. after a cop spotted him and another man inside the park near 64th Street, a police source said.

The criminal complaint against Quest said the park was closed at the time - something Quest should have known because of all the signs saying "Park Closed 1 a.m. to 6 a.m."

Quest was initially busted for loitering, the source said. Aside from the oddly configured rope, the search also turned up a sex toy inside of his boot, and a small bag of methamphetamine in his left jacket pocket.

It wasn't immediately clear what the rope was for.

The criminal complaint says the officer at the scene was able to ID the drug because of "his prior experience as a police officer in drug arrests, observation of packaging which is characteristic of this type of drug, and defendant's statements that . . . 'I've got some meth in my pocket.' "

He was charged with loitering and criminal possession of a controlled substance. His unusual get-up didn't lead to a lewdness charge because he wasn't exposing himself, the police source said.

Quest's unidentified companion was given a summons for not carrying any identification, the source said.

Quest's lawyer, Alan Abramson, had a much more innocuous version of events.

"Mr. Quest didn't realize that the park had a curfew," Abramson said. He was simply "returning to his hotel with friends."

At a hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court, Quest agreed to undergo six months of drug counseling in return for an "adjournment in contemplation of dismissal," which means the misdemeanor charges against him will be dropped and the case sealed if he stays out of trouble and completes his drug program.

He was released with no bail after spending most of the day behind bars.

Abramson predicted after the hearing that "the case will be dismissed." He declined to answer questions.

Quest, known for his hollering antics and stunts on the cable news network and its international counterpart, declined comment, as did a CNN spokeswoman.

On his official CNN bio, the network calls him "one of the most instantly recognizable members of the CNN team."

"He has become one of the network's highest profile presenters," and his "dynamic and distinctive style has made him a unique figure in the field of business and news broadcasting," the network's Web site says.

He was reportedly once offered a position for the English-language version of the controversial Al Jazeera network, but said he turned it down because being gay and Jewish, he didn't think it would be a good fit.

24, loses 82-year-old wife, / Lost star 'ashamed' over arrest

Man, 24, loses 82-year-old wife
Newlyweds Reinaldo Waveqche (L) and Adelfa Volpe
Mr Waveqche began living with Ms Volpes (R) when he was 15

An 82-year-old Argentine woman who attracted media attention last month when she married a 24-year-old man has died as a result of heart problems.

Adelfa Volpes was admitted to hospital soon after she and her new husband, Reinaldo Waveqche, returned from their honeymoon in Brazil.

She died in a sanatorium in Santa Fe, the city where the couple were married.

Ms Volpes had rejected criticism over the age difference with the groom, who is the son of one of her best friends.

"I don't want to resign myself to the idea that I lost her," a disconsolate Mr Waveqche told EFE news agency.

The couple were married on 28 September in a civil service after several years of engagement, and later walked through a local church surrounded by reporters.

Their love is said to have blossomed when Mr Waveqche went to live with his future bride after his mother's death, when he was 15.

Lost star 'ashamed' over arrest

Daniel Dae Kim in Lost
Lost follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious island
Lost actor Daniel Dae Kim has said he is "deeply ashamed and embarrassed" about his arrest on suspicion of drink-driving in Hawaii.

"It saddens me to know that I jeopardised the welfare of the kind people of Hawaii, a community that I love and call my home," he said.

Kim, 39, who plays tough guy Jin-Soo Kwon in the drama, added that he would fully co-operate with police.

He was released on bail after being stopped by police early on Thursday.

Police said the actor had been driving erratically and was found to have a blood-alcohol level that measured twice the legal limit.

"To my friends, family, colleagues and fans, thank you for your kind words of support," said Kim.

"To those I have disappointed I can only ask that you accept my heartfelt apologies. I am truly, truly sorry."

The South Korean-born actor will appear in court on 23 November.

Kim - an original cast member - is the fourth Lost actor to be arrested for a traffic offence in Hawaii, where the popular TV series is filmed.

In 2005, former co-stars Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal limit.

Rodriguez, who played Ana Lucia, was sentenced to five days in jail and $357 (£174) in fines.

Watros, seen on the show as the character Libby, had her driving licence suspended for 90 days and paid a $312 (£152) fine.

And last year, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, known as Mr Eko in Lost, was arrested for a traffic offence, and was accused of disobeying a police officer and driving without a licence.

The charges against him were later dropped, however.

Bathiya , Santhush to rock the Sebs after 'Walk'

Bathiya , Santhush to rock the Sebs after 'Walk'

http://music101.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/image0012.jpg

Sebs Walk, Exhibition and a mega musical Concert will come alive at the St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa on October 7. The 'Walk', the biggest fund raising project of the College, will start at 7.30 am. From the College Grounds. The College students, parents and old boys with well wishers will walk along the city stretch in the Galle Road, Moratuwa extending up to 4 km. to raise funds for the construction of the chapel for the College. This Walk will be followed with a Science and Technology Exhibition at the College premises in a carnival atmosphere till evening and to be concluded the day's activities with a grand musical show featuring Bathiya and Santhush , Ashanthi and Randir.

Bathiya Santhush

The Science and Technology Exhibition to be followed soon after the Walk on this day will be opened by Dr. Shyam Fernando, a distinguished old boy of the College. Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle, Rector / Principal is confident that this event would be a success and invites all parents, old boys and well wishers to join this gigantic event.

The College administration is confident that around 15,000 will gather on this day to walk for the College and arrangements have been made to make this a very colorful event and it would definitely be a huge attraction.

St. Sebastian's College, commenced in 1856, now 153 years in existence and with a present student population of 3000 it remains to be one of the few privately managed schools in the country and also the leading Catholic school in the south of Colombo.

In 2003, Rev. Fr. Bonnie Fernandopulle became the Rector of the College. Since he became the Rector, having identified the requirements of the institution, immediately implemented a short-term accelerated development plan to improve the infrastructure facilities of the school as a top priority.

The improvement of the facilities of the College has been imperative to accommodate the increasing number of student admissions and expanding streams of languages for education as required by the current curriculum of the Department of Education.

‘Within three years, with his drive and total commitment and with Grace of the God, Rev. Fr. Fernandopulle made it possible to complete the construction of the two main buildings for the College, a four storied and another three storied with a total of 40 new class rooms financed mainly with grants' said a member of OBA.

The biggest achievement in the schools infrastructure facilities is the new 25 metre Swimming Pool at the College. The College also has continuously excelled in studies and popular sports.

'The College has long felt the need to have a proper house of worship and of late it has been especially so in view of its rapidly growing number of students. A proper house of worship is particularly significant in the upbringing of the youth and the proper formation of the young minds in the modern day social context. No doubt that a man without religious values could be very detrimental to the well-being of accepted social and moral norms of any given society' he added.

In the light of this very vital and hard felt requirement in the College, the Old Boys Association with Rev. Father Rector of the College, has launched a Chapel Construction Project to construct and complete a proper House of Worship at St. Sebastian's College, by the turn of 2008. The project is expected to cost a total of approximately 25 million Rupees and the College is bound to get a major face-lift along with this, as the Chapel is expected to come up in the centre of the existing quadrangle.

Therefore, all proceeds of this Walk to be held on October 7 would be utilized towards the construction of this much needed chapel.
